The short version

Your location data and saved places are never sent to any server. All processing happens in your browser.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or sell data of any kind.

We may collect anonymous, aggregate analytics (visit counts, country, referral source), no personal data is attached.

The tool is free to use with no account, no sign-up, and no email required.

1. Who we are

Maps Converter is a free web tool available at mapsconverter.com. It converts saved places from Google Maps into formats that can be imported into Apple Maps and other navigation apps.

The tool is operated as an independent project. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at the address listed at the bottom of this page.

2. Data you upload, how it is handled

When you use Maps Converter, you may upload a JSON file exported from Google Takeout, or paste a Google Maps URL. This data may include:

Place names and addresses
Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude)
Personal notes you added to saved places
Custom list names you created in Google Maps

      This data never leaves your device. All file parsing, conversion, and export happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. No file contents are transmitted to mapsconverter.com servers or any third party. When you close the browser tab, all data is discarded.
    

The exported files (HTML, VCF, GPX, or AppleScript) are generated locally and downloaded directly to your device. We never receive or store copies of these files.

3. Analytics data we collect

We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how the tool is used and improve it over time. This may include:

Number of page visits
Country or region (derived from IP address, not stored)
Referral source (e.g. which website linked to us)
Browser type and operating system
Which pages were visited and for how long

Analytics data is anonymous and aggregate. No IP addresses are stored. No cookies are set for tracking purposes. This data cannot be used to identify you as an individual. Analytics are processed in compliance with GDPR.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising-related tracking tools.

4. Cookies

Maps Converter does not set any first-party cookies for tracking or advertising purposes. The site may use temporary session storage to preserve your progress within a single browser session, this data is never transmitted and is deleted when you close the tab.

Our hosting provider (Netlify) may set technical cookies required to serve the website. These are infrastructure cookies and do not contain personal information.

5. Third-party services

Netlify (hosting)

The website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. Netlify may log standard server access data (IP address, browser type, request timestamp) as part of normal web hosting infrastructure. This is subject to Netlify's privacy policy.

OpenStreetMap (map tiles)

The map preview feature loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. When you view the map preview, your browser makes requests to OpenStreetMap servers to load map imagery. This is subject to the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. No personal data from your uploaded file is sent to OpenStreetMap, only standard tile requests.

Apple Maps and Google Maps (links)

When you tap an "Open in Apple Maps" link, you are navigating to Apple's or Google's own services. Their respective privacy policies apply from that point forward. We have no control over how those services handle your data.

6. Your rights under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:

Right of access — you can request what personal data we hold about you
Right to erasure — you can request deletion of your personal data
Right to object — you can object to processing of your personal data
Right to data portability — you can request a copy of your data

Because we do not collect or store personal data from the conversion tool itself, there is typically no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete. For questions about analytics data, contact us using the details below.

7. Children's privacy

Maps Converter is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example when we add new features or in response to changes in applicable law. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the tool after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
